Around 600 European vets register every year with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Guidance on who can register in the UK is available from the RCVS website.
The UK veterinary system differs from practice in continental Europe. Almost a third of non-UK vets will have returned to their own countries within 24 months of registering with the RCVS, many of them without having found a first job.
The RCVS, BVA and the Veterinary Defence Society together offer a course to give overseas vets an introduction to working as a veterinary professional in the UK. Details are available on the BVA website.
VetAbroad is a private company which offers personal coaching to help vets qualified outside the UK to make a successful career in the UK.
