Vetlife teamed up with the Veterinary Voices hiking group for a two-day fundraising hike on May 9th and 10th, raising £2,400.
Vetlife provides free, confidential support to everyone in the veterinary community, including veterinary nurses, students, and non-clinical staff. In the past year alone, Vetlife Helpline received 5,111 contacts from individuals seeking support.
The hike took participants along the breathtaking Northumberland coastline, covering 22km on day one and 26km on day two. Over 14 people took part each day, coming together just ahead of Mental Health Awareness Week to walk, talk, and connect.
This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week theme, community, reflects the mission of the Veterinary Voices hiking group: to bring together veterinary professionals in a supportive, informal environment where they can form friendships, share experiences, and benefit from time spent in nature.
The cost of the Vetlife t-shirts was kindly covered by supporter Duggan Veterinary.
This latest event brings the Veterinary Voices group’s total fundraising for Vetlife to more than £40,000 since its conception in 2021.
“Heartwarming”
Robyn Lowe, Vetlife Trustee and a founder of the Veterinary Voices hiking group, said:
‘It has been another heartwarming event, and I have to say that these hikes are as positive for me as they are for everyone else. I love chatting, connecting and recharging myself with some wonderful people and, of course, the dogs that always join with their humans’
