Financial Problems

There are links on this site to sources of support and advice on personal debt management, small business debt management and student debts.

Immediate help may be available to veterinary surgeons and their dependents from the Veterinary Benevolent Fund. Every case is judged individually but the guiding principals are that the veterinary surgeon must be on the RCVS register and be considered “deserving and necessitous”. Usually the Fund would be the fourth line of assistance after state benefits, personal savings and equity and the Family.

If you are struggling to deal with your financial problems, you may find it helpful to speak to someone with personal experience of the veterinary profession about your finances and anything else that is troubling you. Vet Helpline offers an empathetic listening service and can tell you how to get more specialist help if necessary.
Tel: 07659 811 118 (local call rates apply, 24hr rapid response answer phone).

In addition, if you think your financial problems may be linked to drinking, drug use or gambling, the Veterinary Surgeons’ Health Support Programme is available to provide completely confidential professional help with alcohol, drug, addiction & mental health issues.
